The Pigs

'Pork how it used to be'

Our pigs hold a special place here at Cleave Farm. We have five Large White sows; Christie, Pepper, Bubbles, Darcy and Jazz. We also have William the Gloucester Old Spot boar and a host of piglets and growing pigs. Our sows are not pushed to have huge litters of piglets and most would farrow once a year which means they live to be 10-15 year old with ease, contrast this with the UK average of 3-4 years in intensive pig production. We feed no Soya in any of our pig feed as we view it as a major source of deforestation around the world. All our pigs our born and raised all the way to slaughter on the farm, so there is no stress caused by movements between farms. They are weaned once they are ready at around 8 weeks on average, in intensive pig units this may be only up to 2 weeks.
