There's lots of reasons for this! 1. Supermarkets sell milk at a loss leader; you go and grab some milk, and something else always catches your eye! 2. Milk from the supermarkets is mass produced from very large farms, so there are economies of scale saving them huge amounts on every litre. As a lot of people are now aware there are many downsides to this, we detail this on 'the dairy herd' section of our website.3. When milk is sold to the supermarkets by farmers, it is then "standardised" which means all the butterfat and cream is removed and then added back in controlled amounts to fit into the appropriate milk category; whole milk, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk. The cream is then used for other things, unfortunately this cream also carries a lot of the nutrition in the milk too. In contrast, our milk is simply milked from the cow, pasteurised and delivered to you the following day; as fresh as possible full of the wholesome fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals which nature intended. We hope you can taste the difference for yourselves and see why it costs that little bit extra!
Our milk is best used within 5 days of delivery and each bottle comes with a use by date that is printed on the lid. But we trust that you will use your common sense and follow your nose! We find that it often lasts longer than this, especially if left unopened.
We are aware that food waste is a huge issue and hope you will help us to reduce it. If you have more milk than you need, consider sharing it with a neighbour or baking it into something like a quiche or scones.
